The things we do are usually done to impress others. Rarely will a human keep to themselves something they are proud of or that others will find interesting, almost like the event didn’t happen unless others know about it happened.
I don’t know why nor do I want to figure it out. This is one thing I’ve learned in my life experience and also one thing I no longer want to participate in. I want to be as sure as possible that what I’m doing, I’m doing because I want to do it, not because I want to impress others or make someone envious (which may be the same thing).
Think about some things you’ve done in your life that you are most proud of, an adventure that you went on that you really enjoyed, or something along those lines. Now think about how many people you’ve told about it. Lastly, consider how different the experience would be in your mind if you didn’t tell all your friends or post on fakebook that you did it.
Did telling those who didn’t NEED to know make the experience any more special or unique to you?
Does letting other people know about the excursion make it better, worse, or about the same?
Does it feel good to you to see the look of jealousy on your friends’ faces?
What about when someone leaves a comment asking where was their invite?
Can you do something exciting and only tell those who need to know?
If you do go on an exploit without telling the whole world or have done so in the past, let me know your experiences. Leave a comment or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
